Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy
Welcome to our EMDR Therapy page at Wolf Willow Counselling. EMDR is a specialized type of therapy that can help individuals process traumatic experiences and overcome emotional distress. Our trained therapists are here to guide you through this effective therapy approach.

Understanding EMDR Therapy
EMDR therapy is a unique approach that helps individuals reprocess distressing memories by using rapid eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation. This therapy aims to help individuals resolve past trauma and negative emotions, leading to a sense of healing and empowerment.

Benefits of EMDR Therapy
EMDR therapy has been shown to be highly effective in treating conditions such as PTSD, anxiety, phobias, and more. By targeting specific memories and associated beliefs, EMDR can help individuals make significant progress in their healing journey and improve their overall well-being.

Our Approach to EMDR Therapy
At Wolf Willow Counselling, our therapists are trained in EMDR therapy and have experience working with clients to process traumatic experiences and overcome emotional challenges. We provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals seeking EMDR therapy to work through their past wounds and achieve emotional healing.
EMDR INTENSIVES
Wolf Willow Counselling is excited to offer an innovative and cutting-edge treatment option called EMDR Intensive. Offering EMDR through an intensive format has been shown to alleviate, reduce, and, in some cases, eliminate symptoms related to trauma in a significantly shorter timeframe than traditional therapy. Traum symptoms are treatable with EMDR. The Wolf Willow Counselling Intensive Program involves delivering longer and more frequent EMDR treatment sessions over the course of one week (Program One) or two weeks (Program Two).
WHY CHOOSE AN EMDR INTENSIVE PROGRAM?
- Improvement, reduction, and elimination of trauma
- Related symptoms in a significantly shorter timeframe than traditional therapy.
- Traumatic, intrusive memories, and symptoms, are processed and resolved quicker, eliminating weeks, months, or even years of struggling with symptoms. This can lead to improvements in daily living and well-being, relationships, and work.
- Trauma is treatable and not something you just have to manage for the rest of your life.
- Choosing an intensive program may help you feel more relief faster.
- Three to six months of EMDR treatment is condensed into one or two weeks.
- An EMDR intensive program streamlines the focus of treatment on processing traumatic memories.
- Participants process and clear trauma-related memories and symptoms much faster and with greater depth compared to weekly or bi-weekly appointments as the treatment is more focused, and appointment times are longer, allowing for more processing work.
EMDR INTENSIVES VS TRADITIONAL EMDR
- An EMDR intensive is a faster and more efficient way of processing traumatic material and relieving symptoms of trauma or disturbing life events.
- Sessions are booked closer together (three in one week) and are longer (120 minutes as opposed to traditional 50-minute therapy sessions).
- In traditional therapy, clients often discuss their daily struggles, practice therapeutic strategies, and discuss issues that have come up between sessions. In an EMDR intensive, however, the appointments are focused solely on moving through the eight phases of EMDR processing.
- Because sessions are longer and more frequent in a shorter timeframe, you will be able to access a deeper level of processing and clear more traumatic content much faster

EMDR INTENSIVE RESEARCH
Intensives are evidence-based, safe, and effective. Scientific studies on the effectiveness of reducing PTSD symptoms have been conducted, and the results have been published in peer-reviewed journals.
Recent research out of Europe has indicated that EMDR delivered in an intensive format can be highly effective in the treatment, reduction, and elimination of symptoms related to PTSD, Complex PTSD, and other conditions.
Intensives are quickly becoming the ‘gold standard’ for trauma work. Research in Europe shows a reduction of PTSD symptoms by up to 74% for participants who have had EMDR delivered through an intensive format. (Voorendonk et al, 2020)
